Let me introduce you to Miraflores, our home for the last 10 years. Miraflores is situated in the prestigious urbanisation of Sotogrande, less than 30 minutes to Gibraltar airport and just over an hour to Malaga. The house is situated in Sotogrande alto, and has wide open views to San Roque golf course, Los Reales mountain and distant sea views. The house sits raised on its plot, bordering an arroyo, which attracts bird life, and catches welcome breezes in the summer months. The house is a short drive to the Sotogrande International school, sandy beaches, sailing, water sports, polo as well as the bars, restaurants and all important golf.
We fell in love with Miraflores as soon as we stepped inside: Light floods in through the windows, making the most of the views. The house has cathedral ceilings, with pine beams and solid oak flooring and so while the living area is open plan it still maintains a cosy feel. The house was imported from Vermont, USA and built in conjunction with a local architect. As it is made to American specifications, it very well insulated and in the winter months particularly our electricity bills are around €100\month. In fact we have one of the best EPC ratings around.
Now for the house itself: It is built on three floors, has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. The ground floor is quite separate and has a fully equipped summer kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, laundry, and office, so could well be used for guests, teenagers or a visiting granny. This ground floor has patio doors leading to the bbq area, private pool and gardens. The pool was replaced a few years ago to include a salt water chlorination system. The gardens and lawn reflect the style of the house and have been arranged to minimise effort. The first floor consists of an open plan kitchen/living/ dining area and has patio doors leading to a deck which extends around three quarters of the house, and again maximises the views. This floor also has two bedrooms and bathrooms. The spacious master suite is on the top floor. A minstrels gallery overlooks the living area, and this area is currently used as an office.Throughout the house there is ample storage space, which even I cant fill.
The house lends itself to entertaining, and we have had many parties and fun evenings in the garden..we even had a charity concert and on one occasion a film crew creating an ad. for an overseas client…there were over 40 people milling around!
So why are we wanting to leave this place we love so much? Well its the same story, age and health requiring us to downsize. We have had 10, very happy years at Miraflores and hope the new owners will enjoy our home as much as we have.
