THE NEW ESTEPONA HOSPITAL OPENS.
It has taken 10 years and €16 million but the new hospital of Estepona has taken an important step closer to fully opening.
The Mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, a major force behind the project, and the President of the Junta de Andalusian, Juanma Moreno, attended a low-key opening ceremony last week. The Junta has provided funding of a further €3.2million for equipment and €2million on surgical and isolation units.
The new hospital is already easing the strain on the Costa del Sol hospital in Marbella by taking on some of its Covid patients.
The improving pandemic situation will mean the new hospital will be opening all its facilities in the near future. The hospital is seen as a vital cog in the ever-improving Health Service infrastructure in the western end to the Costa del Sol. It will be providing vital health services to some of the 100,000 residents which includes the municipalities of Estepona, Manilva, Casares and Gaucín as well as the large number of holidaymakers who visit the area every year.
